Dear Kim and Jackie,
Abigale is doing fine! This past Thursday, Dr. Formea, (the most wonderful vet in the whole, wide world,) spayed her. He sent home pain medication for her. Boy, what a world of difference that makes. We've had dogs as a very important part of our home ever since we've been married (38 years.) None of our pets were ever given pain meds after being spayed. They always hurt with every move they made for a day or two after this most important surgery. We never understood why the doctors didn't send home pain medicine. Today, she initiated play with Gidget. We immediately stopped them. I wish they understood why they can't romp right now. The second day that Abigale was here she and Gidget really started playing together. Dick was downstairs last Wenesday night and came up to see what all the commotion was about. Our girls were running circles through the house. Dick said it sounded like a herd of wild elephants were coming through. We're SO glad that the two of them are getting along so well. The first evening that Abigale was here it was early in the evening and she was laying on the floor. Pretty soon she was laying on her side and the next time I looked at her she was laying flat on her stomach with all four legs stretched out, sound asleep, just like she'd been here for years. She's SUCH a good girl She's so calm, relaxed and good natured. She loves everybody and everybody loves her. She's NEVER darted out any doors.....although she LOVES to go out in the back yard with her sister, Gidget. She Is SO good to come when we call. Dick has heard her bark but I haven't yet! Well, as you can see, I could go on and on about Abigale forever.
Thank you so much for letting us become her parents. We just keep asking ourselves, "Why would someone have gotten rid of her?" You could never have "special ordered" a better little girl than her. When she looks at you, your heart just melts. She just wants to get love, attention (and some food.) And she gives us so much love back in return. Although no one can ever "replace" the hollow spot in our hearts for pets we have loved, cared for and lost, we always have room for a new pet to love, care for, for many, many years to come.
If you ever want to come and see how well Abigale's doing you are certainly welcome to come ANY time. Our goal, as soon as she's fully recovered from her surgery, is to get maybe two or three pounds on her. We can feel (and see) her ribs, so she needs just a couple of pounds. As you know, we took her to Dr. Formea's on Monday, Jan. 7th, (just for a toenail trim and a little check-up) and she weighed 15 bs. Gidget and Madeline went together every month to get their toenails trimmed. So Abigale will get accustomed to that trip too! We still miss Madeline and so does Gidget. Abigale is good for ALL of us and I hope she thinks we're good for her too.
Again, THANK-YOU for all you did in helping us find the newest addition to our family. (We love Gidget and Abigale SO VERY MUCH.)
Sincerely,
Dick, Ann and Gidget
P.S. Abigale says, "I miss all my friends at Hope Rescue but thanks for helping me find a PERMANENT family."
