Andi
Andi was rescued from Animal Control on what would have been her last day.  Now she lives in a safe and wonderful  home and has a family who loves her very much.

Jackie & Kim,
Just a quick note to let you know that Andi is doing just terrific. She loves her yard and has several small excavation projects underway. Her current project is  digging for all the old roots from the tree that was removed 3 years ago. Once exposed, she rips them out and shares them with brother Finn. Over the course of a good root chewing episode, they have some pretty loud discussion if not outright shouting matches!
Beagles are powerful sleepers. We have afternoon nap time and that's when Andi goes into snuggle beagle mode. If I'm not around, she'll curl up with Finn on their 'couch' for a nice snooze. Finn, because of his lower pack status, is assigned watch duty. He has to alert Andi if anyone walks a dog on their street. When the intruder is spotted Finn has to sound the alert so Andi can leap on top of the TV console and voice her protests at the trespasser.
And then there's beagle wrestling. First thing in the morning, after breakfast, before a walk, before going outside, after coming inside, before lunch, after lunch, when company arrives, when the mail is delivered, any time is good for wrestling. Anytime, anywhere, anyplace with all the ferocity they can muster. Nothing personal, just play. Well, maybe it's personal related to food, but any other time it's all play and fun.
We just love Andi and are having a great time learning about beagles and experiencing life with a good pair of hounds. They sleep downstairs on their couch at night, but  the rest of the time they keep us in their sites!!

Kim &  Jackie,
Just a quick note to let you know Andi has a companion. His name is Finnley Barton, but we just call him Finn or Finnaroo or Finn McCool or Finster. Finn arrived just after Christmas. The staff at the APA in Clayton, MO were sad but glad to see him go.
After an overnighter with the Vet, Finn arrived home to meet Andi. She wasn't sure about sharing her toys or food or water or humans or anything else with Finn. She seems to have overcome all that and pretty much lets him do whatever he wants except when she wants him to do something and then she's pretty adamant. Finn was pretty thin when he came home, but Andy has encouraged him to bulk up a littel to make him stronger so he can keep up with her. Now, they play pretty much all the time. Andi is showing Finn how to put on his fierce face and growl like a mean Beagle. Finn will put on his face and growl for Andi but the rest of the time he just wants to smile and be the happy merry guy he is.
The yard fencing was recently completed so they can run around like wild crazy Beagles and they do every time they're out there!
I've attached a couple of pictures of Finn and Andi. They're  out for an afternoon stroll to visit Aunt Dean and Uncle Doug. Today they met Uncle Danny. Andi was her usual polite self and had to discipline Finn just a little for his less than stellar behaviors. He's learning a lot from Andi!
Take care

Howdy & Hello,
Just a quick note to let you know Andi has adjusted quite well and assumed the role of Alpaha Dog!
On January 24th we 'rescued' another beagle from the  St. Louis County Animal Control.  His name is Finnley Barton Beagle Boy or just plain ol' Finn. Of course we had him neutered. He was a little shy when we brought him in, Andi was very happy to see another dog and overjoyed that it was a 'handsome' beagel guy just a wee bit taller. She was initially skeptical when she noticed that Finn was going to stay for supper...even though he came with his own bowl, she wasn't sure about sharing her nuggetsf.

After Andi straightened him out on the food issues and realized she didn't want to eat both bowls, she left him alone and it's all been fine since. Flinn is still very curious about the cats. The cats have adjusted so well to Andi that they hardly notice her and she doesn't bother them at all. True to his dog instincts, Finn wanted to give them a good sniffin' and they didn't take kindly to a cold nose poked at their rumps. He doesn't seem to care much anymore and they've learned to just give him a good hiss and he'll back off. Our one cat, Tabitha, a large long haired white cat likes to give Finn a swat on the rump and then take off running. Finn will chase her but she's too fast and disappears into hiding before he catches up. Cute game.

The weather is delaying our fence construction so we're still walking the dogs 4-5 times a day. Quite a sight to see the two beagles hip hopping down the walk. Andi is all business, nose to the ground, full speed ahead. Finn is happy go lucky merry beagle guy that can spot a rabbit half a block away! Once Finn alerts Andi, the chase is on! Great compliment to each other. After the walk it's rough house play time. Andi is very very assertive and dominant and doing her best to demonstrate all the fighting and wrestling techniques she learned in her worldly travels. I think Andi is part Chinese or Japanese beagle because she likes to shout and growl while all this is going on. Andi is 25lbs of beagle agility and muscle and uses every bit to advantage.

When it comes to nap time, Andi is the best snuggle beagle in the world. Loves to get under the blanket, cuddle up and snooze. Finn is not quite as snuggly but he'll curl up next to you on the couch whenever he can.

Andi is a big part of our lives and has turned out to be a near perfect house guest. She has claimed a small spot on an upstairs rug (no real consequence or value) as a piddle place but now, when she goes/comes upstairs we keep an eye open for signs that she has to pee and then hustle them out for a walk! Works like a champ.

All is well here, Andi is sleeping soundly next to me right now while Finn is stretched out on the animal couch.

Thanks for all your help.

Andi is quite the girl now. She's managed to navigate the stairs and visits upstairs but still hasn't ventured to the basement. She gets at least 3 nice long walks a day and knows where every rabbit hides. She loves all the cats and wishes they'd let her dine at Cafe Le Chat but alas, the cats are strict segratationists and have posted a sign at the door--NO ANDI BEAGLES ALLOWED! However, they are happy to dine at Dog House Diner whenever the fancy takes them.

Andi likes to bark at the mail delivery person as they walk down the steps after delivery as she's usually napping when they arrive...
She is so fierce! Love to hear her howling, jeez, sounds like a massacre. Doesn't take much to get her going.

Andi is always up for a good snuggle nap. When we took her in for a check up, the vet found a wee bit of ear mite. All gone now. Aside from that, he said she's in great shape and cute as a button.
I have more pictures, will send later.
Thanks,
Barb & Kevin

Kim & Jackie,
Andi is cuddled up next to me right now!
Yesterday was pretty exciting for everyone. She is a good 'rider' and sat up on Barb's lap just looking around the whole way home. We made one stop at PetsMart to pick out a cage and door to block off the kitchen area. Andi was a wee bit nervous and excited but behaved very well. Good girl!
Barb and Andi had a nice walk around the block  while I set up her cage.  When I looked outside, Andi was making friends with the neighbors and posing for the adoring crowd. Her newest fan is Mathilda, our little 4 year old neighbor. Little sister Suzy had a tumble down the stairs...she can meet Andi later.
When we brought Andi into the house, we tried to get her into the cage and she went in without any trouble but was way too excited so we brought her out and let her 'sniff' and find her way around. Worked well. The cats? Al & Tabitha evacuated to the upstairs; Cosette (our brave black cat) ran to her hide out and Elsa, the girl we worried most for, held her ground on the back of her couch.
After things calmed down we put Andi into her cage where she wadded up her blanket and had a snooze. Meanwhile, all the cats leapt into slow motion and approached the sleeping 'monster' with great courage and then retreated back to their sanctuaries.
Barb has taken Andi for several walks already and she's loving the leaves and getting to know all the other dog scents up and down the block. I had her out for a good walk at 1AM. I think she found every rabbit in every bush! Good Beagle girl.
She spent the night in her kennel cage without a problem. We had her out for a nice long walk early this morning and now she's curled up on Elsa's couch while Elsa gets her purr purr lap time with me.
Yep, she loves to cuddle and snuggle. Very good girl. Cute as can be. She is such a big flirt!
We'll get some pictures soon and send them along. She's doing just fine and making a good adjustment.
Thanks for getting her ready for us.
Kevin & Barb
