April
April, along with her 3 littermates were left at Animal Control by a person who was on his way out of town for vacation. This person had bred his lab intentionally but  when he could not find homes for the puppies in time for his vacation, he left them at Animal Control to fend for themselves.

Kim and Jackie,  We are sooo excited to have April here as a part of our family!!!!!  Monday, the first car ride with us went well (April didn't get sick).  When she got home she was pretty quiet for the first 20 minutes but then started to follow my daughter around the house/yard and hasn't left her heels in the past two days.  It is so amazing how this is my "daughters" dog and April has made a connection with her immediately.  The first day home we had no accidents in the home and I just couldn't believe it.  We took her out every hour and set the alarm to take her out during the night.  Second home day and only one accident inside (our mistake/accident) when we didn't act fast enough when we saw her signs that she needed to go.  April also did well in the car for her trip to the vet on her 2nd day home.  April got to meet her new veterinarian and she was quite shy.  She got her nails trimmed and a complete exam.  Her doctor thinks that she is doing well and answered all our questions.   April loves her new home and toys and does she have toys!!!!  She took to her new "crate" very well and seemed to almost need this space her first night...but her second night home she did whimper/whine for less than a minute and then went straight to bed.  She enjoys laying on a specific rug in the home on a towel that we had when we picked her up.  She also like to climb into the close basket and lay on clothes that the kids wore.  She is so cute.  I don't have my pictures developed yet but will include some in the next update.  Again, thanks for everything and I keep you updated.  Jennifer

I just wanted to keep in touch and update you on April (our yellow lab) that we adopted.  We (April and our family) have been having sooooo much fun together these past few weeks since we adopted her on 6/11/07.  We have enrolled April in Puppy classes and Novice l classes and she is doing very well with them.  We have about 10 puppies in the classes and everyone keeps commenting on how smart April is and how well she catches on to the commands.  One of the owners, has a disability dog she is training and she brags more about April than her own I think.  We have taken several trips in the car too and she loves the rides.  We were trying to get her comfortable with her pool we bought but she's just not sure of it yet.  So...we decided to take her up to our local park (which has a lake) and see what she thought of the water.  Well, we found out she is 100% lab.  She jumped right into the water and started splashing in less than 30 seconds.  My daughter and I got so tickled over her jumping in and out that I'm not sure who had more fun....April or us.  We also took April to a doggy day care for a trial for about 10 minutes this week and I think she really liked it.  At first, she was a little shy (of course their were about 15 dogs/puppies checking her out) but then she got right on in there and started playing.  I think we will sign up for a 1/2 day twice a week for her to get socialization with other dogs/puppies.  She really began playing with several of the dogs there, Annie and Samantha were two of her favorites.  I'm still pretty protective of her, so I asked if I could stay and volunteer my time while she is there to watch over her and learn how she and the other puppies react and they happily agreed.  April and my son (15 yrs) love to play tug of war and fetch outdoors and he helps to exercise her outdoors (they both love it).  However, April was picked out by my daughter, Mekayle (10 yrs) and April will follow her around the house or anywhere she goes.  It's funny how they have that bond.  We crate April at night and she does well with that from 11pm to 6 am (which is great for her age) and then I take her outside to potty and when she comes in she sneaks right by me and climbs into bed with my daughter for another couple of hours of sleep.  She usually wakes my daughter up with a kiss but the smile on her face is priceless and then they both go back to sleep for about two hours.  And for me....I have become attached to April like a new mom to a baby.  My mother laughs at me all the time because I'm always buying her something new and have now started to make her own treats at home.  Oh well, as I always said about my children...There only little once.....Spoil them while you have them.....and they were a special gift given to me by God and I promised him to love and care for them.  This is how we all feel about April.  She has made our family complete.  We'll keep you updated on how she is doing.  Thanks for everything.    Jennifer

I just wanted to give you an update on April.  Mekayle and the family have showered her with lots of love, hugs, and playtime and she has returned it 150%.  She enjoys our long walks and fetching toys (well sometimes she brings them back).  She survived her first bath (although I think I got more wet than she did) and hasn't warmed up to the pool we bought her yet, but all in good time.  We've signed up for two classes through Labest that start tonight and look forward to all their advice.  Picking up pictures later today and will send some after we pick them up.  Jennifer
