Bootzy was not my first choice... he was big and black and generally not the type of second dog you go out looking for. We were looking for small, laid back (an oxymoron I know) and quiet. Something to make parents look like heroes - but still keep the peace.
So according to your advice we let Bear (who is 13) pick out his buddy.
And Bootzy was on his way home with us.
Well - Bear did an amazing job. We are thrilled to have Bootzy and Bootzy seems pretty happy to be home with us. Though there was a debate about changing his name - there was really no other name that fit other than Bootzy.
Bear was curious for about a day - then went back to his old ways. Bootzy took a month of jumping on Bear to figure out he didn't really want to play and that his growling was not idle conversation. But they get along splendidly. They eat separately but drink from each others water bowls regularly.
A few times day we go for long walks (when the weather is nice) in the field behind the house. Bootzy got loose once and was gone only to show up barking at the back door 20 minutes later.
The past few night he has started sleeping with Jack, who's 12. They are largely inseparable once school is over with. A boy and his dog. They have grown fonder of each other as time has passed.
Bootz is amazingly gentle with the girls. Maggie, who's 5 lays on top of him and hugs his head. He doesn't move. Lily (8) is teaching him how to catch a tennis ball.
Bootzy plays with the two Newfoundland's down the street. They pretty much lay on him and he runs circles around them. He's friendly around any dog he meets.
Attached is a picture to update his page with. We will try to get him to some Rescue Events this Spring.
