Captain is an
elite member of Hope Rescues first rescue. And he was the first
Hope Rescue member to find his forever home. He was such a
wonderful gentle dog and he kept his crate very, very neat. A
young couple came to us looking for a little dog.. and they went
home with Captain.. all 70+ pounds of him.... |

Dooney (aka
Lucky Girl) was found on the door step by a Good Samaritan who
gave her food and water. After taking in the nourishment from
this kind person Lucky left and one by one brought her puppies
to this good person's house for her to save as well. Homes were
found for all the puppies and then she called us to see if we
would take the mommy. The lady's little girl named Mommy
"Lucky" so we kept the name. When she was found, Lucky was
underweight and had an imprint around her neck where a chain had
been her permanent restraint. But now "Lucky Girl is very happy
with a new "leash" on life with a most loving and happy home. |

Hey Kim and Jackie,
Here's our latest family photo. Hope everything is going good with you guys. We love our dogs so much, they truly are just like our children. We even find ourselves talking for them at times. Dooney is still having a little problem with chewing things that she shouldn't, but she's getting better. Sometimes when she gets a jolt of energy she just takes off down the hall, jumps on and off the couch, and back down the hall again. We call that her Kamikaze. Captain just looks at her like she's an idiot. Then he gives me a look like " you picked her mom". But we wouldn't trade either one of them for the world. Talk to you guys soon.

Hi Jackie and
Kim,
I just wanted to update you on our little girl Dooney, known to
you as Lucky Girl. She has been such a joy to have as a pet.
She's always so excited to see us when we get home and she loves
to go outside and play with her big brother Captain. She really
loves to snuggle with Captain at night. Captains not always real
hip on the idea, but he's getting better about it. If we had the
room, I'd take even more of your rescues home. I love that we
could help by saving two of them though. We'll write again soon.

| My name is Lacey
Dodd. My husband Eric and myself adopted Captain, a two year
old, a year ago last month. I was really afraid that we had made
a bad decision one because of his size and two because of his
age. We went there to look for a small breed dog and as it
turned out we took home the biggest dog they had at the time. He
weighed 72 pounds at the time and came up to my hips when
standing up. It was impossible not to fall in love with him
though. The cutest thing about him was that he has a bobbed
tail, and when he's excited his whole body wiggles because of
his lack of tail. His favorite thing to do on the weekends when
he's ready for us to get out of bed is to stick his cold nose on
Eric's back. Needless to say, he usually succeeds in waking us
both up. He has been such a joy to have in our home and I
wouldn't change our decision to get him for anything. If anybody
out there is afraid to adopt a dog that isn't a puppy don't be.
He was 2 years old and completely house broken and trained.
Thank you Hope Rescue. Lacey and Eric Dodd |
