| Darla (NKA Molly) was rescued from a high kill shelter that uses the gas chamber. And though she had been badly neglected by her owner, she was one of the most trusting and sweet natured dogs we have met. Watch her now as she prospers in her new loving "Forever Home". |

After browsing your web site a couple nights ago and seeing Molly (formerly Darla), we had to finally send some new pictures. Our digital camera hasn't been working, but Hayley took some pictures with her video camera to forward to you. Molly looks so different that she hardly looks like the same dog!
She must have been tied up in the sun all summer because when her coat grew out, she is a more normal brown and white. What her coat now lacks in highlights, however, is more than made up in luster and beauty! She is a very pretty dog; we get compliments on her all the time.
She is also very sweet and snuggly - the one picture is on the day bed where she cuddles us while we watch TV. She is active - loves to chase lights on the floor or water from the hose in summer. She tears around the back yard like crazy - she's quite athletic - which keeps her in trim shape. She didn't have much of an appetite the first month or so, but now loves everything. We are pretty careful not to feed her people food, though, so she doesn't turn into a beggar or get fat. She loves pigs' ears for treats and gets rawhides frequently to sooth her chewing urges. I think she is beyond the point of chewing up our shoes, as we haven't had any destroyed for the past couple months!
She howls at trains, stares at seemingly invisible things on the walls or ceilings for minutes at a time, and growls at the sound the TV makes when it turns on and off, so she has many endearing idiosyncrasies! I think most of those might be related to behaviors she learned to keep herself stimulated when she was captive. She gets along fine with the cats, who don't like her as much as she likes them, but is a little aggressive with visiting dogs. I think that also may be from being tied up and being unable to escape a threat and/or lack of opportunity to be around other dogs in a natural state. We are trying to work on that . . .
As you can see, we love her very much. She is happy and secure here and is very much part of our family. We are very grateful to have her - keep up the good work.

Kim and Jackie,
Just wanted to give you an update on Molly; it's been all I can do not to call every day to tell you how much we love her! After a couple days of pacing the fence perimeter, and the house, she settled down and seems to be at home and happy. She is very affectionate (so much so that if she sees a neighbor working in the yard behind or to the side of us she whimpers until I let her out and then rushes to the fence, tail wagging, until they notice and reach over to pet her. My neighbors like her, too! (We are blessed with the best possible neighbors all around). She seems smart - she barked in response to a far neighbor's dog (I don't know these people; they live a block behind us and I can only see a bit of their back yard, where they keep a very yappy Llaso Apso (sp.?) outside all the time, poor thing) for the first few days and we told her no each time, and now she does not bark even in response.
She has not had a single accident in the house, and appears to have picked one area of the yard for doing her business, which makes pooper-scooping easy. I have an appointment to have her spayed on Aug. 13 when her heat cycle should be done, and we are signed up for an obedience class (for owners, the class listing stresses!) starting in September. Molly's transition to our family has been easier than I could have dreamed and we are very thankful to you for rescuing her. It truly horrifies me that this almost-perfect dog was a day away from death and would indeed be dead, if it weren't for you. Bless you both!
Oh - her very favorite thing to do is play in the hose. She loves chasing the water and having it squirted right in her mouth/face - she's hilarious and very entertaining, although it takes a good bit longer to water the plants . . .! We will send pictures later and keep you updated, but I wanted you to know that we love her and she seems to be healthy and content here. She lays at my feet as I type this - she is usually near me or the kids, following us from room to room to plop down near us, even in those times when we are not actively petting her (which are rare) - yet she has no problems being alone in the house if we are all gone - as I've said - a near perfect dog.
With thanks, Buffie |
